Use one workbook for the whole trip

Our sister site Fruitful Years offers a free six-page workbook developed for dental travel. Its proposal, budget, contact and travel sections may help you organize other planned-care enquiries and unanswered questions. Check which questions apply with your treating team; it is a planning record, not clinical advice or a recovery protocol.

Use an English or Spanish message to ask the clinic for details.

Use the dental college’s official register

The Colegio de Cirujanos Dentistas de Costa Rica provides an official Listado Odontólogos. Its search accepts a name, specialty or professional code and displays status.

  1. Ask for the treating dentist’s full name and código profesional. Ask who else will perform any part of the work.
  2. Open the official listing. Enter the code or name in “Búsque a su odontólogo por nombre, especialidad o código.”
  3. Leave Estado set to Todos for the initial check so that you do not hide records with another status. Select Buscar.
  4. Compare Nombre, Código, any Especialidad shown and Estado with what you were told. Save the date and exact result.
  5. Ask the college to clarify a missing, ambiguous or unexpected record. Do not infer the reason for a suspension or assume that a blank specialty field confirms or disproves a claim.

We tested the status filter and a professional-code lookup on September 29, 2026. This verifies the search workflow, not a recommended dentist. Records and interfaces can change.

If the lookup is unavailable, or you are checking a doctor

Start from the dental college’s official homepage and contact the college with the dentist’s full professional name and code if the listing will not load. An appointment directory is not proof of current registration. Keep the result unresolved until you receive clarification.

For a medical doctor, use the Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos. Ask it to confirm the professional code, current status and registration of any claimed specialty. The college’s Fiscalía guidance explains that an inactive code must be regularized before practice and that specialty incorporation is a separate matter. Do not substitute a clinic profile for these checks or send patient records to a directory.

Check the facility separately

Ask for the exact facility name and address and its current authorization to provide the proposed health services. The Ministerio de Salud lists habilitación de servicios de salud separately from general operating permits. Ask the Ministry or the relevant Área Rectora de Salud how to confirm the authorization; a dentist’s college record does not replace this facility check. See the Ministry’s official procedures.

LabelPlain-language meaning
TodosAll status options in the search.
ActivoThe record is displayed as active.
SuspendidoThe record is displayed as suspended; seek clarification from the college.
EspecialidadThe specialty field. Compare it with the precise claim you are checking.

The college lists info@colegiodentistas.org and +506 2256-3100 as contact details. Confirm them on its official site before sharing information.

Keep the professional and facility checks separate

A registration result does not assess your proposed treatment, its suitability or the clinic’s outcomes. Ask which exact facility will be used and request supporting details for any accreditation or facility-permission claims. Do not treat a marketing badge, directory profile or testimonial as the completed check.

Questions to settle before arranging the trip

  • Who is the treating professional, and can that person change?
  • Which parts of the proposal are provisional until an examination?
  • What is included, excluded or still unanswered in the price?
  • How are additional work and changes approved in writing?
  • Which appointment and travel dates will the treating clinician confirm?
  • Which records will you receive, and who has agreed to follow-up at home?
  • Who responds after hours, and what costs or return visits could remain your responsibility?

Confirm the Costa Rica logistics directly

Choosing a base? Use our San José, Escazú and Santa Ana healthcare and local planning guide to compare exact campuses, transport and accommodation questions. Also explore Atenas and Grecia or Liberia and Guanacaste.

Ask for the facility’s full address and map location before choosing an airport transfer or accommodation. Plan around your actual appointments and the clinician’s instructions.

  • Confirm transfer availability, step-free access and accommodation extension terms.
  • Ask what help a companion is expected to provide and whether it is practical. Use our sister site Fruitful Years’ support-planning questions to agree on transport, help afterward and a backup.
  • Record the currency, payment schedule, refund terms and possible additional-trip costs.
  • Check current entry requirements and destination advice for your passport and route.

Canadian travellers can consult the Government of Canada’s Costa Rica advice; U.S. travellers can use the U.S. Department of State’s Costa Rica information.

Confirm the room, transport and help together

Use the exact treatment address and appointment plan when asking for a room or transfer. Confirm doorway and lift access, bathroom layout, vehicle entry, who helps with luggage and whether an extension or changed pickup can be arranged. A listing marked accessible is not a confirmation of your particular needs.

Ask your treating team what assistance you may need, then confirm who will provide it, their service scope, hours, fees and backup. Agree on a secure records handover and follow-up contact before returning home. Keep sightseeing flexible and subject to your clinician’s advice.

Visitor care and resident coverage are different questions

A planned private treatment trip does not establish eligibility for resident healthcare or reimbursement. Ask the relevant insurer or programme about your status and this specific treatment before relying on coverage.

Turn the unanswered questions into a plan
